Dear Friends,

Ring the bells and sound the horns! Young Finn Monley
made his debut appearance in the great drama of life
early Monday morning at 5:27 AM. We are jubilant and
juiced with joy, this kid is a beauty, this kid is a
beast, huge, thick, he reminded me of Tom Rathman
busting a hole through the defensive line in the glory
days of the Forty Niners. I mean, 9 pounds one ounce?
Twenty two inches? Katie and I are both on the smaller
side of stature, but our young chappie seems to have
picked up a big boy gene somewhere along the line.

Finnegan Jack Monley! Finn McCool was an Irish folk
hero, Jack was my grandpa’s name, and we like the
fairy tale quality to the lilt and intonation of
Finnegan Jack. I think it sounds like a beat poet,
like a traveler.

Katie and I have been blessed by the support of family
and friends during this time. Dave and Nancy Summy
were right there with us in the delivery room,
cheering Katie on. (She was nails by the way,
absolutely nails. I am so proud of my beautiful wife.)
Life is precious, life is a miracle, and witnessing
its advent lent us both a new gratitude for the artist
that God is.

So the bells are ringing down here in Santa Barbara.
The horns are sounding and the fattened calf is
glancing around nervously. We have a brand new Monley,
a brand new Summy, another branch on the woven grove
of our family trees. We thank God for Finnegan Jack,
and we hope all of you get to see him soon.

With Much Love,

Nate, Katie, and Finn Monley
