The Cabin trip 2009

Our much loved and greatly missed friends Jared and Jos invited us again to their family's cabin up in the mountains a couple of weeks ago. They brought the whole Santa Barbara crew with them, and for one short weekend, we were all together again - 17 people in about 200 square feet of red wood awesomeness. (People got creative with the sleeping arrangements.....)

We did just a little bit of hiking around the cabin. Finn really wanted to climb onto this big boulder. I don't blame him - look how cool it is.

We saw lots of deer, some squirrels and birds, but no bear this year. A couple of years ago we saw a big brown bear very near the cabin.

Hi Finn.

It was so fun to see our friends again, and sit around and talk. Luckily, we all have similar interests in nerdy games like Settlers of Catan and Puerto Rico. And no cabin trip would be the same without the late night game of Catchphrase. (gosh, we are nerds.)

Popcorn anyone?

I don't really like popcorn anyway, but now I will never think of it the same. We got all the popcorn ceiling off in one day. It was such a big undertaking.....and very messy.

I can't complain too much. My job was to prep all the rooms while the scrapers did their thing behind me.

Our friends and neighbors Jeff and Joe put in a few hours. They were such big help. Check out this nasty glob of ceiling Jeff is working on. Yuck.

Between this job and the painting and moving weekend, we had so many people helping us. Friends and family came out of the woodwork to get us all settled in. There's still some minor finishing in every room, but at least we are moved in and mostly unpacked! Yay! It's so nice to call it home.

State Fair!

After the Yolo County Fair, Finn was super excited to go the State Fair. I was too. The last time I had been there was back in college. It was a fun family outing. We couldn't help ourselves, we had to do the classic squeeze-four-people-into-the-teeny-tiny-photo-booth shot. If you look closely you'll notice the corn dog makes it into the shot as well. (It was Nate's....I'm just holding it....yucky.)

Finn got brave and went on a few rides by himself, like this one. It went super slow on the straight-aways and then flung the car around the corners. Finn laughed so hard he could barely hang on.

Maybe next year Selahbob.

Selah found a fun grassy hill to run down (right next to the hipnotist....another State Fair gem)
